What We Do - Play Development

Alway Community Association had identified the need for increased Play Facilities and opportunities in Alway that enable 5-11 year olds access to play, and toys. A vital element of this is the ability for children to determine their own play needs and how they play.

Alway Community Association currently organise children's parties, events and occasional projects for children during the holidays and on the weekends. The intention will be to operate a weekly or twice weekly after school session open to all 5-11 year olds and the association will be working with Newport City Council and Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations to achieve this aim.

The GO APE project is a play club set up by Alway Community Association funded by a play development grant. This club has been set up to provide the children of Alway and the surrounding community with an outlet in terms of facilitated play. The club operates under the Open Access Play Policy and is managed and supervised by qualified, CRB checked members of staff. By encouraging and supporting the children within this play environment, children can play in the way they want. These kinds of clubs have been proven to develop and improve their social and personal development as individuals. Alway Sports Development and the Go Ape Team have come together to provide a multi activity club. These activities range from Wii Sports with further development into actual sporting activities, to arts and crafts for those creative types, and many more activities besides.
