What’s it all about!
Alway is a communities first area, because of this they have the privilege of a youth development officer whose responsibility it is to meet the needs of the young people and also offer opportunities which they may be otherwise unable to access.
YO YO YO!
I am the youth development officer and I work with young people who live in the sub ward of Alway and are aged between 10-25, I am based in the Alway community office. I support a local youth forum in making decisions in their community, their views and representation of young people go towards informing the projects that are run, Some of the projects we have run so far are;
Get cooking project;-
Sharing and learning cooking skills, to become healthier!
Keep Fit;-
Encouraging exercise and healthier lifestyles.
Singing lessons;-
Promoting confidence, whilst teaching vocal technique and rhythm skills resulting in amazing performance opportunities.
Street dance;-
Learning a new skill, promoting teamwork and taking part in showcases and competitions.
Gospel Choir;-
Sending positive messages through music.
After school club-young citizens;-
Learning to become a good and active citizen whilst assisting in the transition to high school.
Young women’s project;-
Looking at issues facing young women and building self esteem.
